The Coffee House

@snowbear No doubt it's pretty country, but the cold would be a no go for us. After all the treatment years DW is miserable below 76 degrees and I've noticed the cold more.

Hope it works for you, enjoy!

In other news the hummers are back. We started seeing an occasional one last week. Yesterday we spent most of the day on the deck, close to the feeders. At first they were apprehensive but eventually they swarmed in putting on quite a show.

Thanks. And we are the opposite - between 68 and 72 is comfortable. It may go to minus temps but the house has heat.

I should think about putting mine back up soon but I don't think they show up here in VT until sometime in May. I like seeing those little guys.

I was feeling a bit down this morning but was looking forward to the temps rising today and it managed to reach in the mid 60s so I went out for a 6 mile hike this afternoon. Haven't done that since November! It felt nice to get out and enjoy some peace and quiet with nature. Although was incredibly disappointed to come across somebody's dump site, they dumped their TV and other garbage. That upsets me quite a bit.

Other than that it was a good walk/hike, a bit chilly when the wind blew but the sun sure felt good. Come across a woodchuck, had a staring contest with it and I tried speaking to it like my cat, he didn't seem to care but was interested in me, he was listening! haha.

I’d rather be cold than hot. You can always layer up - cold weather gear has come a long way. Only so much you can take off when it’s hot out there. I don’t care for ac and I like to be outside so for me, cooler is better. I do think your body/blood gets acclimated after a year or two in whichever extreme you make your home. It’s harder for visitors to imagine living “in this cold” or “in this heat” as the case may be. Given my choice I’ll take 70 in the sun, 60 in the shade with no wind or rain! We have had a windy and rainy spring so far and I’m sick of it.

We're the same as @snowbear - yes, a main reason to come back to MI was to be near my 98 yo mom, but I grew up around here and am still loving the area.

The last Halloween we spent in Georgia the temps hit 105°F - pumpkins were rotting on people's porches. Summer used to wind down by late September- it unquestionably lasted longer over a couple decades. It was really starting to feel oppressive.

If I have to choose a season in which to hunker down indoors to avoid weather, I'll pick winter. You can cook, bake, have a cozy fire.. etc. When you're retired, you don't have to go out if you'd rather not. I've spent many blistering summers hiding indoors from the heat and oppressive humidity, while watching the lawn turn brown.

I'm over it. Plus, Michigan is gorgeous. 😍

A woodchuck is also known as a groundhog. And now for the Dillards, along with Denver Pyle and Maggie Peterson were also known as "The Darlings" on the old Andy Griffith shows.

Yep - you can only tke off so many clothes and not get arrested.

We still have a few of the portable A/C units, for that week we might need them.

I grew up in an area that saw temperatures drop below 0 and hit 100+. When the temperatures stay cold for a period of time you get acclimated so it isn't so bad, same with heat. Regardless of which end of the scale you're on, humidity is a problem. 40 degrees and damp is COLD, 75 degrees and 90% humidity is stifling. One of the side effects of long term chemo is it messes up the internal thermostat, DW stays cold. Cold and dampness really sets off my back/joint pain. Fortunately we have a well insulated, energy efficient house, so we're covered at either extreme.

I think you’ll find you need them more often than you expect. I like the portable ones so you can still open the windows without a lot of hassle.

I suspect so, too, but it shouldn't be as hot for as long as the DMV.

Many years ago my job involved a lot of travel, had customer in Muskegon. I remember one early September I met him for a round of golf. The day started good, but rapidly devolved. We didn't get to finish the front nine before a lake effect snow storm drove us to the clubhouse.
