What's new

The Coffee House

Seems that several states as well as Congress are kicking the can around on Daylight Savings. Some want to do away with it, others want to lock us into Daylight Savings year round. Personally I've never liked DST, I get up when the sun comes up and inside with my feet up when it goes down, the clock for the most part is irrelevant. However as others have noted on the subject I don't seem to get the same restful sleep on DST. Maybe if we were locked to one or the other year round my body would eventually accept it.
I hate when it’s dark at 5 PM. I’m not a huge fan of it being still light out at 9 PM either. Maybe they should split the difference - adjust it by half an hour and then leave it alone and never touch it again.

That's an idea I could live with that

Day and a half of wet snow ended early a.m. today. Spring? Whazzat? Off tomorrow morning to Niagara-on the-Lake for roses bound for the family ruin garden rehab. Pix to follow--hopefully.

We're in a strange pattern, turn on the furnace before I go to bed, turn on the A/C when I get up. Hopefully temps will stabilize soon. We had a pop up storm yesterday evening that dropped some 2"+ hail on us. Fortunately very short lived, and they weren't frozen rock hard, sounded like squishy softballs hitting the roof. Couldn't see any damage this morning which is good, insurance paid for a new roof from hail damage less than 5yrs ago.

I’m for staying on standard time.

MLW has about two weeks left at the job. MLSIL sees the doctor tomorrow, and fingers crossed she gets colo-bag reversal surgery scheduled.

This winter our daughter shipped us a whole case of some of her excellent homemade salsa. The Chipolte Heirloom jar was empty, so grabbed the next jar, poured a half bowel, and started dipping. The first few chips were a nice burn, the more I dipped the more it burned, but I was determined not to waste it. By the time I finished my mouth was a blazing inferno. Noticed the lid was different - it said Chipolte Heirloom HABENAERO. As i sat there mouth on fire, sweat rolling down the forehead. I remembered her telling me to go easy on this one as she got it a little hot.....man was it good though. Can't wait for things to cool off, for another round

Landscapers are coming to the house to work on outside while I do some more tossing stuiff insode. I'm heading north in the morning.

The surgeon explained to MLSIL that she can have the reversal now but that would increase the chance of failure. Normally three months but she has more infection than normal so six months is better. She's going to wait until July. She's also going to go up to the ME house for a couple of weeks in late May or June to relax and hang out with Zoe.

For the first time I replaced a couple of terracota tiles on the hearth. It almost looks like I know what I'm doing! New ones are lighter and arfe glazed but it's all geting lime-washed so it's fine.

A bad couple of years gets worse: Now health problems

I got an insect bite about a year ago, which never quite healed. It has been an annoyance, but it was on my back, so I generally ignored it. Then, by chance I started finding out about Lyme disease. Ah, yes, then I saw the symptoms. Guess what? It seems I have probably had a developing case of Lyme disease festering and slowly worsening. There is no real cure. There are drugs and medications to reduce its effect and that's all. Oddly, the "best" thing that has occurred is that Avril L. suffered from it famously. That's good for me (not for her obviously) because it brought awareness. Maybe that will result in a cure someday. But it seems to be spreading, and that's not good. I didn't entirely dodge Covid-19. In fact, although I didn't have a formal diagnosis, I was ill late in 2019 in a way that points to that disease. That and the injections in 2020 strengthen my resistance to that disease. That and other prior diseases might have built up my general immune system, which might have helped against Lyme. Hopefully there will be a cure someday. Wonderful, just wonderful. . . .

I'm outside a lot in woods and fields so I pay attention. We've had a few reports of people contracting it, but they've all been from Deer Ticks. Think that's the only bug that carry it.

So sorry! Have you gotten a formal diagnosis on this? If not, get it looked at and see if there's anything that can help manage symptoms.

I made a pile today.

It was just nice to be outside today and getting things done. I felt like this winter dragged on and on. It was in the mid 60s so perfect temp for some driveway maintenance.

It has been sunny and deceiving. Looks like a great day, but the wind is brutal cold. I really hate this inbetween weather. Looking forward to warmth of at least 80. We went for a walk the other day when it was a tad warmer. Many, many people at the local Uni gardens taking prom photos. The girls had to have been chilled.
