What's new

The Coffee House

So, what's the first thing you do when there's snow on the ground? I go to get a haircut so I can look pretty for my driver's license photo tomorrow. :biglaugh:

On the way back, a pickup in front of me (at least 50 feet) lost it and ran into a small SUV going the opposite direction. The SUV rolled onto it's side. After working for, and supporting 9-1-1 for so many years, I got called for the second time, ever, and stuck around to give a statement to the PD. Still a bit of traffic between me and crash and others on that side had stopped. Engine and EMS arrived, but EMS left after a few minutes so I'm guessing no one hurt or refused transport. I heard a ladder truck was enroute, maybe to block the road (taper) but not sure. PD will contact me if needed.

This started as flurries for about 30 minutes, around 10:00 this morning, then started again around 11:30 or 12:00. It didn't take long to develop into a real snow. The movers finished up shortly after it was sticking to the ground (and their ramp).

Yeek. Lots of rain here. Pretty raw and windy too. The birds have been emptying the feeder in a single day because of this weather.

Happy Monday to one and all! It's 78 and sunny! Thanks for the anniversary wishes!

Sorry to hear what happened to you @VidThreeNorth. I'm guessing laws in Canada are different than here in the US regarding credit cards. Here in the US credit card customers are not responsible for fraudulent use of their cards, at least for the major issuers. I use CC for most transactions rather than debit because the banks are much quicker in dealing with fraud since it's their money at risk. Debit cards are a risk, because it can take months or never for the banks to handle the situation. Hopefully things will look up for you.
Agree 100%. I haven’t used my debit card for anything other than to take cash or an ATM in over a decade. Never never never use your debit card for anything other than to to take cash out. Credit card is the only way to go for online or for shopping in person. As long as you pay it in full at the end of the month it’s the same as using cash/debit but much safer and hopefully earning some rewards or cash back.

I have 2 credit cards and both will send me a text asking if I have made a particular purchase, or if the vendor or the amount seems outside my usual transaction history. If it's not me, I'll text back NO and they'll immediately cancel the current account, issue me a new card and go after the fraudsters.

It's annoying, but fraud gets caught very quickly this way. It's happened to me 2-3 times over the last 5 years. I've never been held liable for anything.

I'm sorry this has happened to you, Vid. Hopefully things will square up soon for you and you're back on track.

Same as @terri: The credit union sends a text for any transaction, including transfers between savings and checking, over a limit that I set. Mine is currently $15. We've had the debit card cloned and the credit union was real fast about refunding the charges and turning everything over to their fraud unit.

I have an Apple Mastercard. One thing I like about it is my ability to change the card number if I think I need to. I can also change the security code when I want, or have it set to change after each transaction.

Driveway cleared, driver's license attained, fishing license attained, passport application completed and appointment for photo and processing set. A pretty productive day.

Went down to the park at the end of our road.

I have the same, an Apple card from Goldman Sachs. I've noticed that both that card and the Chase and USAA cards are presence aware, meaning that they detect if my cell phone is at the same location. Apple has advanced features that rotate the CVN from time to time, and like you said, you can change your card number on the fly, since it isn't on the card, you have to look the number up in th3e wallet app if you need it.

After 60's, 70's and even an 80-degree day or two for the past weeks may get some frost in the morning. But then back to 60's and 70's, so normal last winter and 3rd spring/first summer.

The yellow/green pine pollen is out in force, everything is coated in yellow dust.

So got rid of the squirrels that were getting in my crawl space in my flat roof. Now I have a momma raccoon and her baby in one of my chimneys. They can not damage anything as it's an old one that is closed off. So I'm going to have to wait till they leave before I can seal that off. Also noticed a few of the bricks are loose on the chimney so masonry repair as well. The joys of home ownership.
Oy........why my house. There is a really nice vacant one down the street.

It's their planet and they let us live on it!. Unless there's other access, a simple paving stone on the chimney top will keep visitors and weather out. Tons of DIY masonry how-to online. Getting ready to replace glass in some mid-19th C windows and locating skilled trades able to replace an 1850s balcony and veranda. Guess it all keeps me off the street and out of the bars...

I wouldn't be so sure that they can't do any damage. . . .

Tonight's weather:

Tonight is warm and clear. Ironically, I cannot set up a time-lapse because I am in the middle of something. Oh well. . . .

Sleepy morning, peeps.
I seem to have twisted my back and strained my upper arm. I'm on pain relievers and muscle relaxers for a few days. No Jeeper things for me, this weekend. I have to run lazy lobster down to Portland to see a dentist this morning so I'll delay that pill.

True that. I've done masonry work before so no worries there.
