What's new

The Coffee House

Back to the "Maybe finally Spring" for us. Temps in the mid 70s this week, the redbud and Bradford Pears are blooming. Starting to see hints of green in the grass, and my nose is dripping. 🙄
Same here. The Korean Mulberry and Willow Oak are starting to bud, the hydrangea is showing new growth, and the rose bush also has new growth on it. I think we've seen the last of cold temps here in N. Texas.

@jeffashman just came in from spending fertilizer around the apple and pecan trees, no sign of buds there yet. I'm hoping they hold off a bit. Last year we had an early bloom and late freeze that stopped any production.

We already experienced that. The hydrangea had sprouted new growth, and a surprise temp plunge back into freezing killed off the new growth. I was concerned that it had been done in, but it is sprouting a single green bud at this time, so there is still life left in it.

MLSIL turned on A/C for a bit, as the house got up to 75. Next week I head back to Maine, in time to see Winter transition into Mud season.

All the trees are budding up over here and the tulips are poking through the mulch. Even have some green on the honeysuckle. Did an inventory today and found 3 of my 11 clematis vines have been chewed through. (Freakin bunnies!) I’ll get out there with the chicken wire tomorrow!

Finally! My first sighting of the hyacinth and crocus shoots today. :icon_cheers:

Feels a little late this season, but geez we had a cold winter - I'm tickled they're finally here.

Still enjoying this springtime spell of warmer temps and sunshine. It will stay warm, but rain will move in just in time for the weekend.

Yup. Crocus spotted in the few warm bare spots at the family ruin. Winter aconite and snowdrops are still under shrinking piles of snow--another week, maybe? More reassuring are returning migratory birds--robins, grackles, redwings, Canada geese. Year-round crew is hitting the feeders hard this week. Mothballing the snowblowers this weekend--fingers crossed...

Yep - seeing the usual crowd showing up tells me it's spring, no matter what the calendar says.

They're here and tearing into everything I'm putting out. I saw a robin on my suet cage - first time for that!

With increased traffic, the neighborhood murderers should be showing up, too. Healthy population of Cooper's hawks likely are menu-planning...

We've had regular visits by a Cooper's hawk:

I'm pretty sure that's a Cooper's hawk? Bad cell shot, but there are banded tail feathers visible. But it's been over a week since we've seen him. The bully birds started to show up - grackles, blue jays, some crows - and oddly, he seems to have moved on.

Since this new TPF skin, my previously re-sized images are showing up much larger. It looked okay on my phone, but obnoxious from the laptop here. eww. I'll have to check other files now before posting.

This is one of those random things that happen. I ran across this YouTube clip from about 10 years ago. Ailee is a K-Pop singer who was raised in New Jersey. I actually saw her perform live in Toronto years ago. This video clip was a particularly famous one. She was on a game show and she had to sing one of her hit songs while riding on a roller-coaster.

I reverted to the old skin because of that. All the photos are HUGE and I feel like I'm pixel peeping. Other than that, it looked very good.

Glad I'm not the only one. I reverted back, too. No point in doing additional resizing, etc., over a new forum skin.
