The Coffee House

Went to a small local bar for lunch. Husband was so happy to have the best chili, in his words. I asked what was different than mine. He said this one had beef. I make mine with ground turkey. If you add a bunch of hot sauce doesn't all taste the same??

I like mine with ground turkey, I don't eat much red meat anymore.

I only needed about 14 seconds of that - the green overhead light and the flickers was definitely creepy!
So I was successful at making it! I knew that light was creepy. I was eating my lunch and kept looking at it and decided to film it on my phone and make a short creepy video.

So we got 2 feet of snow here. I plowed the driveway yesterday, just the main part of it. It was snowing a rate of 1 inch per every 30 minutes. Woke up this morning to another foot of snow and with the winds, there was nearly 4 feet in some parts of the driveway!

You can tell how windy it is and how big the snow bank is haha. I got it all cleaned up though, I'm sure there is more in the driveway after all this crazy wind!

Yeah just a little bit of snow.

I use 93% lean ground beef. I'd have a riot complete with torches, pitchforks, and broken bourbon bottles if I used ground turkey.

There is just no way to hide the taste of turkey. You either like it or, as my case, you don’t.

It must have ground beef, kidney beans and not much else. Of course in this part of the south we call it chili beans. Chili, (without beans), is what we put on hot dogs.

MLW used to make a real good vegetarian chili for office parties when she was at the Public Works department. A lot of the inspectors didn't eat meat.

It was an interesting day. It was cold, but not exceptionally so, but the wind was occasionally noticeable. A jet liner got turned over. I've never heard of that happening before. I posted a small video clip and you can see the snow falling. It didn't look exceptional at the time I recorded it. I'm no sure how much snow there was. It didn't look like more than 2". Strange really.

The wind was wild yesterday! Check out what my weather station recorded.

The highest gust it has recorded was 38mph. I'm sure there were some high gusts than that too. The flat line at the beginning was due to the anemometer being frozen from the freezing rain the day prior. It started working when the sun started shinning melting whatever was frozen that prevented it from moving.

I just talked to Heather and the snowblower will be delivered Friday! :1219:

Lazy Lobster is getting over Norovirus. They said a neighbor apparently saw they were struggling to clear and plowed the driveway for us! No snow predeited next week, so I guess I'll play with the next store, or just clear some of the yard. Maybe a path to the pond.

I also ordered a dual battery charger (SB and lawn tractor), and a little goodie of the scale model variety. I'll post some macro shots as I build them.

I think chili is one of those dishes that not only has regional influences, but people's personal tastes play outsized roles.

Chili with ground beef will get you laughed out of the kitchen in some places, and chili with turkey or chicken (aka white chili) will get you thrown out. There are cooks who insist on cooking down whole pork shoulder roasts, just to get pulled pork for their chili. No beef.

With such an abundance of recipes and tastes, I don't think there's a right or wrong way. It's what you and your family find tasty that matters.

Let's not even get started on cole slaw and potato salad.

Well, now you know what nice neighbors you have! That's a friendly gesture.

Or, could be they're very plow-happy like @nerwin ;)

Korean friends tell hilarious stories about their catty grannies dissing other grannies' sub-standard kimchi recipes.

That spans all cultures, I think.

Except the Scots. Their food is mediochre, at best, regardless of who cooks it.
Except their Scotch, and then, only single malt. :biglaugh:

I offered to plow my neighbor's driveway who has 3 feet but her husband insisted he can do it with a snowblower and didn't want my help. I guess it's a "manly" thing. I'm like ok then. Just trying to be a friendly neighbor, especially during bad weather like this. But apparently nobody wants my help. 🤷🏻‍♂️
