The Coffee House

This is it… our one day of Winter… this will all be gone by tomorrow afternoon except for maybe areas that are shaded all day. Not to say that another system won’t come along later, we still have the rest of January and all of February.

My heart goes out to those devastated by the LA fires. I can’t even imagine. How does one pick up after that?

@cgw snow still falling here, we'll over 4" now. It was hilarious watching Phoebe when we went for our walk, she's never seen snow. For the first few mins she ran around in crouch mode, not sure if it was safe. Once she got comfortable with it, she was a speeding demon running wide open, throwing snow everywhere. What wasn't fun was when we came in, snow balls frozen to her long hair everywhere.

No snow recently but temps are painfully low. -4F this a.m.
Eww. A few days ago we woke up to 9F and it took awhile to pull out of that. Yesterday was a gorgeous winter day - full sun, cloudless hard blue sky. Still only 20F but the birds and critters loved being out in the sun.

Our snowfall is coming early this afternoon. 2-4" expected, not too bad. High: 27F Low: 23F.

I prefer the temps staying in the 20sF while it snows - dryer snow is fluffy and easy to get rid of with the snowblower. In the 30's, it's typically got more moisture in it, it's heavy and nasty and the type that turns into slush. Icky.

omg it happened everyone! it's above 20f here! 😱

It's literally t-shirt weather now.

(until next week when it dips back into single digits again)

Who else had enough of this really cold weather?

I don't know. :( It’s a real disaster out there. So many displaced people, and several have been killed. Businesses, homes destroyed. The Santa Ana winds whipped it into a frenzy.

Having worked many brush fires over the years, I can tell you there's a big difference between little wind and a lot of wind. When you get gusts over 40mph, the super heated air is virtually impossible to stop. The one that hit Gatlinburg a few years ago had winds approaching 80 mph. With winds like that it goes as long as there's combustible material in front of it. Here in our state we do a fair job of managing the undergrowth with controlled burns, something I don't think CA does.

Under-reported problem was fire-fighting aircraft grounded by high winds.

And the one y'all loaned to us that was just taken out of service by a drone flying in restricted air space. Hope they find the operator and make them pay every penny plus time behind bars.

Those Santa Ana winds turned the area into one big blast furnace.

Hey ya Hosers! Happy weekend! Made the chicken in the Roman clay pot (Roemertopf... literally Roman Pot) tonight. O! M! G!!! It was incredible! Why haven't I been using one of these before? This has got to be one of the best chicken dishes I've ever cooked, and it wasn't even fancy. That clay pot is amazing!

I'm always up for making my chicken dishes better. Never tried a Roman clay pot thing before? Sounds like whatever you made was incredible, I wonder what's special about that the clay pot that made the chicken better?
