Can cross off being bitten by a spider on the bucket list now, bugger bit me 5 times the other night camping out the backyard. My arm hasn't fallen of, yet.

Yes but the ocean is 2 to 3 hours each way. Possibly some areas along the Bay, even US 301 on the Eastern Shore (Delmarva peninsula). Just hard to do that kind of drive on a weeknight (had to go into the office today).

Definitely catch the next one - we should be closer.

I was bitten once on the back of the head this summer. My entire scalp on the backside went numb for a week. Weirdest feeling.

There must be places along the MD coast that are dark. We had people in their backyards taking photos and were only a few miles from Boston. Definitely better in dark skies but not needed last night!


It was epic!!

Taken with my Fuji but edited on the iphone as I got home at 5am and had an all day class today. Too tired to even download anything to my laptop today!

Absolutely gorgeous! You're so lucky to have them this close. We figured we'd have to drive a good 2 hours north to escape the city lights, and just couldn't get it together soon enough. Darn!

So...you're not bored in your retirement? I sure don't like to think that you've been bored.....

Not bored! It is absolutely fantastic to be able to chase the northern lights all night long and know that if I wanted to sleep in, I could. I got 4 hours sleep before getting up for class. I was debating skipping it, but I figured I would go and if I started to get really tired, I would leave early. I did manage to hang in there for the whole 5 hours, but was practically comatose by the time. I got home after sitting in traffic for over an hour.

All caught up and recovered now. Gorgeous day here! 65-70° and sunny with a nice breeze. Met Princess for lunch and just finished some chores in the garden. It’s going to rain here the next 2-3 days and getting very cold at night. Won’t be long until our first frost comes along and kills off all my dahlias

Organizing for the "other" Thanksgiving done tomorrow instead of trad Monday in vain hopes of feeling less like a "Fat Bear" finalist Tuesday. Fresh bird, usual sides, apple pie(good local crop this year). Meine frau rocks a killer mild sour dough skillet cornbread for stuffing--and breakfast!

DW has made a lot of Sour Dough bread/rolls/etc over the years, and a ton of skillet cornbread, but we've never had Sour Dough cornbread. Might have to try that.

Staying up all night was productive. Your northern light photo was excellent! The one thing to remember being retired is to pace yourself. We try not to do two things in one day or two things in one week.

I painted the base of the hot tub. First I had to scrape off the peeling paint. Rested for two hours, was waiting for the hot tub to be in full shade. I had the paint can on a paper plate and scooted myself and the can around the perimeter. The last section was next to the landscaping with large decorative rocks I had to contort around. Now why is the skirting wood??? I would have thought it be aluminum or vynal.

My tally is, 1 bee, 1 yellow jacket & 1 spider "unknown" though. I guess a snake bites next.

The big telephoto lens is still at the shop, only got the 70 to 300mm kit lens. There's a comet here tonight and it sucks not having the big fella.

I got no idea if the 300mm will do a good enough job for the adventure if there is one, would 300mm be worth going up to the small mountain lookout to photograph it?

Mr & mrs magpie have new babies it would seem, they both took beakfulls of food back to nest this morning.

@Digger... here we have Southern Yellow Jackets that build subterranean nests in your yard. Almost impossible to see until you step on them or mow over them, been stung multiple times over the years.

In the fall it seems like every $%&^% spider in the world is spinning webs. No matter how careful I am, I invariably face plant one while walking Phoebe around the fire lanes resulting in a wild burst of gyration and arm flapping seemingly impossible for a man of my age.

@SquarePeg as Cheryl mentioned you have to pace yourself in retirement, otherwise you'll burn out. LOL

No worries! Despite possible appearances to the contrary, I really have been pacing myself. Long walks with the dog, puttering around the garden, painting, art class, a few photo outings – but not as many as you would think. Starting this week I am going to add in a couple of days a week at the gym

Today and tomorrow, I am going to spend the days editing my photos from my leaf peeping day and from the northern lights. Hopefully the rain will let up long enough for a walk with the dog at some point, and if there’s any time left, I will get some practice painting in.

Cold and rainy here today. Harlie and I are in front of the fireplace keeping warm while I download all my pics.
