The Red-bellies were favorites of my wife and I when we lived in NY. I have posted pics of a pair making a nest/hole in a tree. Unfortunately p.o.s. starlings drove them away before there were any chicks.
There are Golden Fronted woodpeckers here but you would be hard pressed to tell the difference, the size, coloring, calls, and behavior are all essentially identical.
