$nikon s lot.webp$nikon s camera.webpI have a near mint 1953 Nikon S model Nikon Rangefinder Camera with two lenses, the Variframe Filter, Original leather cast, a bunch of Walz Filters, all the original paperwork for the Nikon Camera which is serial number 6104090. Camera was owned by an employee of Western Electric and he took VERY good care of it--all iof this equipment is in near mint condition. There is even an original roll of the film. I am interested in comments about this camera and am interested in the best way and place to sell all of this (I know about Ebay but won't utilize their services). I a interested in the market value and where I could find a buyer.

U should use eBay completed auctions to find the value even if u won't sell there.

Keh will buy your camera for about half what you'd get on eBay.

The 3.5cm lens looks like the F2.5 version, which is a great performer. The 3.5cm F3.5 is not as good.

Roughly: The Nikon S with 5cm F1.4 "Japan" lens goes for $400~$500, the 3.5cm F2.5 goes for $200~$300. The Finder for about $100~$175. Cameras with boxes go for more.

The Nikon S has a "Squinty" finder, similar to the Screwount Leica and older Contax RF's. The Nikon S is well-made camera, but you need to check the shutter curtains before and after winding, look for wrinkles and pinholes.

The set of Walz filters are quite nice, probably around $40 or $50. Walz coated their filters early on. Their vented hoods are the best.

To get the best price: shoot a roll of film with the camera, use both lenses. Shine a flashlight through the lenses and take pictures, show they are clean. I used to "pose" the pictures taken with the vintage camera, proof that it has been tested.

Sell here, or on rangefinderforum.com. There is a Nikon RF subforum there.

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree...

The Nikon SP is the best camera that Nikon ever made. Especially with the Titanium Shutter curtains.

The 1x finder of the SP, S3, S4, and S2- really nice. At one point, I had 16 Nikon rangefinders. I'm down to 12.

Some day you will walk into an Antique store, and there will be a Nikon SP or S3 sitting there... For $30... Like my Nikon M...

Some good history above. The Nikon S is basically the same camera as the Nikon M, but has Flash Sync. The camera uses a 24x34 negative format, but standard spacing. The Nikon I is the same camera, but used the 24x32 Japanese format to get 40 exposures on a roll of 36. It flopped, and is worth a fortune. Only in the land of Nikon.

To Quote from the Nikon Web Site: The "Best of Nikon" is the Nikon SP

I'll agree with that twice over.
