Hello,

I want to try to do a 16 hour time lapse, where the camera will take a picture every 2.5 minutes. I am wondering if anyone has any experience with long time lapse projects with this camera. Do you think it will be able to last the full 16 hours?

I have been shooting with my D 5300 now for about a year and a half. The battery life is good but I have never done anything like you are doing. I think it will be close.

Make sure image review is turned off

If the LCD shows the image after each pic then it's going to drain the battery.

They do make cords to connect the camera to a wall plug for power but those are expensive.

That's only roughly 384 pictures, total. Your camera is rated at 600 per charge.

Assuming you have a fresh battery and follow everyone else's advice, it should be fine. If you really wanna make sure it'll work, spend like $40 on one of the aftermarket battery grips for your camera. Most can hold two batteries, thereby doubling your battery life.

There are other settings besides image review you can change the settings for to help the battery last longer.
See page 83 of your D5300 User Manual.
You'll find the Menu Options listed on page 55 of the D5300 User Manual.

Unfortunately, Nikon made a major change in how much information they included in the D5300 manual.
There is no Index and they decided not to include notes about each menu option.
They completely eliminated many other manual sections that had been standard parts of Nikon user manuals, like a section about Focus, Metering, Flash and more.
