I had a 16-85 f/3.5-5.6 for several years that I used with my D7000 and to be honest, it wasn't any better than the 18-105mm plastic mount kit lens that came with the camera. I'd go with a AF-S DX 18-140. It is the 1 lens solution range and gets good reviews.
