Nikon 70-200/2.8 is the reliable choice.
Alternatively, the Tamron 70-200/2.8 is optically excellent, at a lower price.
I have shots made the full length of the football field, where I can clearly see the players faces.
This is the full frame at 200mm on an APS-C D5600 (screen capture).
This is cropped in to the goalie (screen capture)
I think you can use the 70-200/2.8 for centerfield at night. As long as it isn't too dim in the outfield.
Just don't crop too deeply.
