It's a trade secret. I could tell you but......... lol.

Yes, I prefocus on the grass/dirt edge and then wait for the ball to get to that point. The exif on this one was 300mm, f/2.8, 1/1600, ISO 100 (was set to auto).

Well thanks for sharing your secret. I've done something similar with roadracing motorcycles, pre-focus on a spot on the track and fire the shutter while panning as the bikes passed the spot.

And that is a slower shutter speed than I was expecting.

That was a cool shot...I forgot to mention that earlier.

Thanks. The kids are U11 so 11 years old or under. The ball isn't going that fast so 1/1600 will freeze it pretty easy. I've used that and 1/2000 to stop one at a Minor League game before.
