What we call "buzzards" in North America are not the same as the buzzards of Europe. Our buzzards are vultures (coragyps), while the European buzzard is a type of raptor in the same class as hawks (buteo). The bird in the second shot looks like a Black Headed Vulture

Lot of people call them Turkey Buzzards here in West Virginia, they are everywhere cleaning up the road kill.
