British Motor Corporation was the first vehicle manufacturer to assemble vehicles on a large scale in Colombia (there were a few Studebakers assembled earlier in Barranquilla). Austin trucks up to seven ton capacity, some buses and Austin Gypsy jeeps were produced from 1962 to 1965. It became evident the trucks just couldn't handle the mountainious terrain and producion was ceased after only three years. I have seen exactly one Austin Gipsy (Spanish spelling) over the years and several trucks like the one pictured. It was still running when I took the photograph with a Canon PoweShot some years ago.
