I was thinking about buying a new tamron 150-600, but after some thinking i might get more use out of a 70-200. I am really thinking i should bite the bullet and buy a Sony G but what do you guys think of the third party lenses and do they compare for IQ?

I really like my Sigma 70-200 mm F/2.8 - For me at least the IQ has always been more than acceptable even using a teleconverter.

I like my Sigma 100-300mm f/4 (which is up for sale) and the 50-150mm f/2.8 ... both have similar IQ to my 70-400mm G.

If you have the money, the newest version of the Tamron 70-200 F2.8 is rated with the best focus and image quality, of the 3rd party lenses. I believe its rated better than the current sony lens as well. I have the old Tamron and I like it a lot. Im waiting on the 150-600 tamron....patiently.

Thanks for the input guys. Just wondering if this is a get what you pay for type instance and i should get the Sony for best quality

The 70-200 is my most used lens; the is also 70-200 not a birding lens.

I dont believe this to be the case. I have done extensive research on the 70- 200 lenses ( 3rd party compared to sony) the cost of a sony is not made up in quality in my opinion. If I were to replace the 70-200 I have, I would, without question go with the new tamron 70-200 VC.

The Tamron is considered the best for image quality in the segment right now, from many sources.

Shot with Tamron 70-200 in my backyard. This little guy lives in my backyard and regularly flies directly over my head.

The Sigma OS HSM is excellent. I'd be hard pressed to find the tamron any better.
