I knew that the first comment will be about that...gets in your eye.
The smoke is neat but I think the thickness of it right in front of his eye like that is hurting the image.

I see that blob, and understand...gets in your eye.

I agree. To be more specific to me it is the blob of smoke in the corner of the eye between the eye and the bridge of the nose...that simply looks like an unintentional smudge. I can see the allowing or wanting the smoke directly over the eyes, but that 'smudge' just destroys the picture imo.
I would consider cropping it tighter, and even a black and white conversion just to see how it affects the smoke and his eyes. Otherwise, I like it a lot.

Better, but I will leave it to one of the experts to explain how to put back the skin tones so they match. He has darkened skin around the eyes that needs to be matched. And yes, the BW version does have something going for it.
I like the concept Maria, but I think there is too much smoke in the right eye.

Personally I like the dark skin around his eyes. It gives depth to the eyes and has a similar effect to smoky eyes, but done naturally. It draws me in. Removing those dark areas would flatten the light and make for a much less captivating portrait in my opinion.I would consider cropping it tighter, and even a black and white conversion just to see how it affects the smoke and his eyes. Otherwise, I like it a lot.
