I am shopping for a general-purpose flatbed scanner for up to around £100.

I will be scanning A4 documents and standard 6x4" photographs for archival.

I believe my options are:
  • £55 - Canon CanoScan LiDE 300 (2400dpi, USB 2.0 mini-B)
  • £75 - Canon CanoScan LiDE 400 (4800dpi, USB-C 3.0)
  • £90 - Epson Perfection V39II (4800dpi, USB 2.0)
  • £93 - Plustek OpticSlim 2610 Plus (1200dpi, USB 2.0)
I do not know much else about them.

I like that the LiDE 400 has USB-C.

Would you specifically recommend one over another?

You may want to see which ones provide auto correction of tears and marks, color restoration, etc in their software if the originals have these defects.

I use an Epson V700 and a XL10000. Canon's are good to but I would stay away from the Plustex, their stuff is junk.

I have used Canon printers for many years now ... :encouragement:

I use the Epson V400, excellent scanner. Wish I could have afforded the 700 though.

I should think the scanner on any all-in-one printer ought to suit your purpose. Save as an image file and photoshop it if necessary.
