Landscape and nature photos?

Greetings!

Over the past few years, I have been interested in photography. However, my interest has really peaked these past few months and I've looking to purchase new camera equipment. I'm a nature/landscape type guy, so I need a camera that can photograph these type scenes. I'm not looking to spend thousands of dollars, but I am looking to get a nice camera. I have been looking at some older ('03-'05) DSLR cameras and have been pretty comfortable with the prices of what I've seen so far. I'm not looking at developing this into a career (medicine has already got its grip on me), but I am looking to take nice photos for family and friends. Seeing that I am no professional, I am turning to you guys and girls for help.

Rebel XTi or Nikon D80 or are great cameraa that'll last you for a loooooong time.
I wouldn't say overkill for you...

What you'll want is a nice wide lens.

the 10-20 for the canon, or the 12-24 for the nikon...I think that'd be good.

Perhaps a more useful all purpose lens as well, but that should be decent.
