Hello all. Looking for advice on how to post looking for advice. My wife and I travel to unusual destinations, and I like to keep a photographic journal. Many don't require anything more than the iphone, which I find takes perfect pictures in almost any circumstance. When doing something requiring a telephoto lens, I use a Canon EOS 90D with a Sigma 150-600 MM lens. A bit heavy for hiking safaris in Africa, but it's worth it to me. I bought the 90D to upgrade an old Rebel T5i specifically for Africa, mostly because it was new and a higher resolution than the 5D. However, I wasn't incredibly impressed with the resulting photos, possibly because I really am more of a point-and-shoot kind of photographer, not trying to be a pro. So some friends went to Africa and their son had a Nikon Coolpix 950 and took a number of really incredible shots. We're doing a trip to South America with a stopover in Panama, with some of the best bird watching trails in the world, and I'm trying to decide if I'm better off lugging the 90D along or just buying a bridge camera; and then wondering if the P1000 or the Sony RX10 IV is a better choice. Not sure this is the forum for asking those questions, but suggestions for where to post would be welcome!

Regards,

Dave

Howdy and welcome! I have the 90D with a Tamron 18-400mm and the Sigma 150-600mm. I use the latter lens for birding. Heavy, but as you noted, worth it. I also have the Sony RX10M4, which is my lighter weight walkabout camera. I purchased it for my trip to the Cayman Islands, because I didn't want the bulk and weight of the Sigma lens. It's a great little bridge camera. I've been on a break, but looking back to getting at it with the warmer weather coming.
