i can't really decide wich one to pick.... i shoot mostly mtocross, the difference between the fps doesn't really bother me that much...the only thing is the 36 megapixels that the d800 has..how does that turn out in noise performace? i can't find MX pictures on the web taken with the d800 so i can't really compare by myself...

has anyone here been shooting sports with the d800? or do you know where i can find some sports pictures?

i will be having my birthday pretty soon so it's a good excuse to change DSLR :D

sorry for my bad english :)

D610 AF performance depends on light, whereas D800 is able to AF accurately in very low and difficult light conditions. If you shoot motocross in the evening with artificial light it may be a factor. But I do not shoot sport, so take it with a pinch of salt.

From reviews I saw comparing the D610 to the D800 the D610 has the slightest advantage in DR and low light performance, not big differences.
Over all both are very capable cameras but the D800 is directed to the professional users while the D610 more to the hobbyist.

I'd take the D800 for the Auto Focus system..

People make a big deal out of the D800 file size... IMHO its a non issue.

You have to commit to buying FX glass when you move to full frame..
You have to commit to buying an 'average' computer system when you move to a D800..

Your 18-70mm DX lens won't work on the D800... neither will your Pentium Dual-Core 2008 notebook... boo hooo.

I have a quadcore 9550 , buying FX lenses qont be a problem once i got the camera...
I would like to see some sports shots taken with the d 800 ... Just to see how it performs... I m not a professional photographer yet...i do get paid sometimes tho :)

The D800 specification for AF low light levels (-2 EV) is just 1 EV less light than the D610 (-1 EV).
While it is better performance, it is not a big difference.

Reasons to pick up a d800 is also about functions of the camera. 1/8000 shutter speed on d800 and 1/4000 on d610. Auto bracketing 3 on d610 and up to 9 ev on the d800. D800 has faster flash sync speed and more auto focus points as well.

User settings on camera are faster to access.

Other things to consider is that you can crop in waaaaaay more with the d800.

This. The AF system in the 600-610 has been found to be very sluggish and "dumb" when focusing. The D800 on the other hand is superb.

I shoot sports.. and while i haven't had a chance to try out the D800 at something like a HS football game i don't think i'd have an issue with it. As a matter of fact, my next body will probably be whatever D800 update comes out next.

Thanks alot for the help guys

Either a D800 or a D800 !!!
