Group,

I have a Canon EOS 90D that can perform Lens correction within the Camera settings. Correction can also occur after in Canon DPP4.

Is there an advantage to correct for lens effects with the camera software or later with raw file editors?

In another thread, it was suggested that better raw editors, than Canon DPP4 are available, however, the ability to correct for lens effects can be best done with the Canon raw program.

In the EOS 90D manual, there are comments regarding the lens correction settings in the camara that could be a problem?

Hence, I am not sure which method I should use.

Lens corrections in camera are not applied to raw data; they only apply to the camera generated JPEG. So if you're going to process a raw file lens corrections have to be done during raw processing.

Ysarex,

Thanks for the info. The EOS 90D manual states that the user could apply "more correction" later in the DPP4 software which gave me the idea that the correction may have been for raw.

Now I know that it is only used for JPEG processing in the camera.

Is it possible to correct lens distortion in-camera using Canon or Canon with Magic Lantern, without using Lightroom, Photoshop, or similar software? Just to clarify, I'm specifically asking about distortion, not aberrations or vignetting.
