I think he was pissed because I called him a beetle fly...

Cheers mate. It was 400mm actually with the 2x on there. I did have a high shutter speed though.

Ah, of course - missed the ext tubes being on there! I've been shooting between 70-100 and have struggled to get flies to stay still long enough for me to get them in focus at anything longer than that. I must give 200mm a go though and see how I get on.

I usually shoot macro at 200mm on this so I can not be right over the animal, and 2:1 magnification gets the job done too. I thought I'd whack the teleconverter on just because and was completely oblivious to the fact I was now shooting at 400mm. I guess that explains why this was a few kilometres away at a local garden and I didn't have to leave my front patio to get the shot...
