Advice on opening an art gallery

I have a small storefront that is attached to an existing business that I own. I have been considering opening a small art gallery for local artists. Do any of you have any experience with galleries. I am interested in knowing how galleries promote themselves to artists and the public. I would also like to know if galleries rent space to artists to display their work, or if they are only paid commission. Any info that you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
