Can others edit my Photos
Photos NOT OK to edit
was told to post here, roast it

Okay but seriously.
ISO 100
f/8
1/500

I have a sony a6000 with a Sigma 16mm 1.4 lens and take 99% of my photos with the black and white setting.

I always loved this store for the cornered building style, the strong and dark shadows into the entrance to give a foreboding, ominous setting. The portrait over landscape because the stairs invites you to look and move upward, as you may have inferred. I don't have much else to say, I just go around town and do street photography and have fun.

Great tonal range here, and an interesting use of leading lines. I also like the way you included the word "books" from the awning in the composition, giving context to what this building is without having to know an image title. For an improvement, the only thing that stands out to me as needing to be adjusted is the horizon line. I would rotate the crop slightly so that the steps and door aren't tilted as they are, because to me that tilt is a bit jarring in a way that doesn't feel appropriate for this particular image.

My area of expertise isn't in this genre of photography, so my praise and critique may not be worth much.

I appreciate it, thank you

@icbm_jockey welcome to C&C. Just a FYI this thread isn't necessarily meant to be a "roast" but a place of "answers".

You provided insight into your goals for the image, do "you" feel like you accomplished those goals? Are there specific areas in the image that you have questions or concerns on that members might address?

hm, good questions. I don't have anything specific about the photo I'd like for anyone to address, I wanted to let people openly make whatever critiques they wanted to from observation and learn from that. And I told in another thread to post here so I just sort of followed suit

@icbm_jockey an important step in self growth is the ability to critique our own work. To see where weaknesses and positives lie so that we can adjust going forward. C&C was started to not only encourage self reflection, but to serve as a place where others could provide on point critique. Unlike other galleries on TPF non-substantive comments by others are not permitted in the C&C, so guidance by the OP helps others comment.
