Welcome back, Mike.
Tell us: who all came to the meet-up?
Will there be TPF-member pics? The Salute?
The ones you started out with are absolutely and totally stunning! Wow-wow-wow-y! The countryside is amazing. Wonderful. Lovely. Enormous, and you captured it sooooooo well. The reflection photos are very impressive! But so is the bear! And how come you could get that close to the elk. "Elk"???????? You're sure?
And hey, this should be stickied to the top of the General Gallery for ALL to see, for WHO is coming down to "past meet-ups", I wonder??? It is the most RECENT one. Let it get the attention it merits! I shall move it.
We can always move it into "storage" down here when it`ll have run its course, for the time being, however...... Off to the General Gallery and to be stickied!!!

the one with the canoe, are those buddies of yours you put out there?
Nobody than I knew. Actually, after about 10:00am, it hard to get a shot of Lake Louise without a bunch on canoes there. Even at 8:00-9:00, it's hard to walk around the lake because of all the tourists there.
i got on google earth, and found lake Louise in Alberta, same place?
also, google earth makes it all look pretty developed, is it? if so what a shame . . . is it hard to hide the roads and buildings and stuff?
I think there is only one Lake Louise...so that must have been what you found. There is a small town (a village, actually) called Lake Louise...and it's named for this lake. The lake is a 10 minute drive from the village but there is a rather large chateau (http://www.fairmont.com/lakelouise/) right at the lake. And Yes, there are plenty of sights in the mountains where it is hard to get a shot without some sign of civilization or without some people.
Tell us: who all came to the meet-up?
Will there be TPF-member pics? The Salute?
For the first few days, in the Banff/Lake Louise area....we had Jeff Canes, Cyber Surfer (Roy), Jack Lumber (Bob) and myself. We were hoping that Peanuts was going to show up...but I guess she was too busy.
On Thursday, Bob left us and three of us made our way to the Jasper area. We then met up with SpeedTrap (Sean) and his wife (Michelle)...and their dog, Jasper.
I do have several shots of the others, and even a TFP salute somewhere....I get it it eventually.

Yes, I got the wood pecker Sat night in the campground. and we went down to the lake on Sun Morning at 5:30am but I did not get the shot I wanted, but we did see a black bear on the road, but did not get a shot of him.
Your shots are fantastic!

Great pics, I like the wide-angle shots of the mountains. Makes me wish I lived closer to such beauty. I'm stuck in Timmins, ON, way the hell up North. Only roughly 4 hours from James Bay - polar bear country!
I'll have to get my post count up so next year I can join you guys and not be some weirdo who just joined the forums ;)

Well Mike, I just got home, and I have over 1000 photos to process! It may take a few days to pick out the best, but I will have some beauties coming in the near future. :grumpy:
The whole trip was a blast, and I look forward to the Second Annual Rocky Mountain Tour next year. That's if some others want to make it a challenge for next year.
I hope all had a great time and enjoyed their visit to Alberta and parts of British Columbia. I know I did!

The photos posted on this thread are absolute jaw-droppers. What mind-blowing scenery, and the shots do it justice. Excellent work! And I look forward to Cyber Surfer's posts.
I am so sad I was not able to make it there this year...maybe next year (as long as it doesn't interfere with or is too close in time to the big Germany meetup at the end of May).

Fantastic shots, everyone! It looks like it was a lot of fun. :) I especially love all of those bighorn sheep photos-- and there's so many other lovely ones that would look amazing on postcards.

Cool to see some more TPFers in your photos, Jeff. Thanks for that!!!
And it was the bear of Photo 19 that attracted all those photographers in Photo 18? True fact is that the places round there are that crowded?
Most of your photos have so far suggested it is the least known, most remote, quietest, most undisturbed area of this whole wide world!?!?! It is not so???

It was prime tourist season, that surprised me I thought skiing/winter was but that is number two, I (we) tried to avoid touristy crowds in my shoots
And yes the crowed in #18 was shooting the bear in #19, people where way to close, figured we where not the slowest, and black bears are typically not too aggressive:lol:
thanks for looking

Great shots Roy & Jeff.
Thanks for including the shots of the meet-up members, Jeff. That's awesome. I like how you have gone against the norm and included people in the shots with the scenery.
And Yes Corinna, it was peak tourist season and in many places it was very hard to avoid getting people in the shots...or to even get into position for a shot.
I can hardly find words. The photos (and the nature, too) are fantastic. Wish I was there.

Yep made it to Drumheller, but did not get a lot of good shots in the museum, the lighting drove me crazy, I really need to work on my lighting issues, also made it to Waterton but it was smoky from fires on US side, still need to edit those shots

I live in Calgary so I get spoiled by this scenery all the time. You really have to work hard not to get a great photo in this area. I'm going on a long trip around the world and hoping to get some shots of beautiful things we don't have here like beaches, palm trees and stunning architecture. But for natural mountainous beauty it's hard to beat home. Great work everyone and I hope I'm around for the next meetup.
I'm so glad we live in such a beautiful country!!!
Couldnt be more jealous. I sure wish I could've made this trip.
Next year!!! Hopefully.
I've been to banff and the area but never really spent alot of time around Lake Louise. I'll have to put it on my list of things to do obviously.
Love everyones pictures. Great work guys!

Actually, that was a rather small bear. That doesn't mean that it's not dangerous...just not as scary as a large bear.
Also, sad as it was, there were probably 100 or more tourists along side of the road where the bear was....most of them out of their cars and trying to get closer for a 'great shot' with their little digi-cams. Seeing the wildlife is great, but I don't like it when tourists go crazy when they see something. To be honest, we were no better...but at least we had good camera gear ;)

I've probably got the dough... If its going to be done again, maybe a new thread should be started in advance (like LaFoto has done for her meetup), that way some new people that are serious about exploring the possibility (me :) ) of going. Month, ideas for itineraries, where we will be, how long the trip is, how much can we expect to spend etc etc etc.

Absolutely breathtaking. The colors are amazing and really do "pop". Hats off to you wonderful TPF photographers out there! I wonder if it takes post-processing to bump up saturation/ curves etc to achieve these crisp details or just mainly good lens and skills?

Good quality gear does help, but good technique goes a long way. I used a tripod as much as I could and used a monopod as well.
Processing is certainly a part of the process and there are a few bumps and tweaks...but with such great subjects...there wasn't a lot of editing needed.

I would suggest getting in contact with Roy (CyberSurfer)...he is the one who really made this trip happen and made it such a success. He said that a trip in the late spring would be better than in the summer. I don't think he comes around to this site, very often, but you should be able to get in touch with him, via his web site.
