Looks like I get to be the one to start the thread :cheer:
I think I got some really nice photos in New York this weekend. I'm itching to share them, so I'll post a small first load now (I'd do more, but really should get to sleep). Enjoy :)
1. One of the first shots I took in Manhattan; taken just after leaving Calumet Photo where I rented a 24mm lens for a day (at the moment my bag only has a 50mm and a lensbaby in it, and I really wanted a wide angle for NYC).
http://homepage.mac.com/skyboy/Photos/nyc2k7/nyc1.jpg
2. Near our hotel, there was some kind of famine memorial that had some cool looking stone and stuff. In the background is the World Financial Center.
http://homepage.mac.com/skyboy/Photos/nyc2k7/nyc2.jpg
3. Construction. I like taking photos of construction because I know that some day, in perhaps a year or two, there will be a complete building there, and that people will forget what was in that place before. ;-)
http://homepage.mac.com/skyboy/Photos/nyc2k7/nyc3.jpg
4. From on top of the famine memorial thing. The photo above was taken from about the same location, but facing about 90° to the left. Our hotel is that building on the left. The World Financial Center is on the right. Ground zero is down the street (hard to see at this size)
http://homepage.mac.com/skyboy/Photos/nyc2k7/nyc4.jpg
5. Jersey City, taken from the waterfront near our hotel. This is actually part of a panorama that I plan to post later
http://homepage.mac.com/skyboy/Photos/nyc2k7/nyc5.jpg
6. A long exposure in Times Square
http://homepage.mac.com/skyboy/Photos/nyc2k7/nyc6.jpg
7. Another Times Square shot.
http://homepage.mac.com/skyboy/Photos/nyc2k7/nyc8.jpg
8. One more:

Hope you enjoy :)

Hey folks, I am really, really, really curious to see many more of your photos, also photos of MEMBERS! Though it looks good to see pics from NYC again (it'll soon be a year since we were there, imagine that: another YEAR! *shakes head in disbelief about how fast time flies*)

Joe  - these are your ONE AND ONLY pics from the meet-up!?!?!
You are kidding us.
Tell me that you are!
You can't mean that.
Must NOT mean that!
Eh!?!?!?
Corry, what a cool series.
Good to see Chris again (hey, that beard is gone, only a moustache stayed!), and to see Jim and Dave for the first time as photos. This is what I so like about meet-up pics! We get to see our members and can put faces to their screennames (and real names to them :D).

Here's my second load of photos, in no particular order:
10. Corry and Joe at the B&H superstore on Sunday. I took this by sticking my CF card in the demo 1Ds MkII model they had ;-)
http://homepage.mac.com/skyboy/Photos/nyc2k7/nyc10.jpg
11. Another at B&H, this time taken with a 5D (I stuck my own 50mm lens on it for this one). I didn't realize until I looked at the EXIF data that the cam was set to ISO 1600, hehe. Seems to have some kind of high-ISO banding issue or something...

You got a lot of good ones, Sky...and the one of the ceiling in the hotel is a definitely a Joe shot. Good job on snaggin that one. :P
That first picture of me on the subway, leaning against the bar....was taken about 1/2 a second before the train suddenly started to brake, and I broke Joe's sunglasses!

I am enjoying seeing everybody’s pictures. You really got some nice shots. You three are serious and talented photographers. I haven’t looked at all of my pictures but thought I would post a couple.
A couple of quick comments on the photos:
Sky, I love the JC night shot, I hope you post the pano. I see that you posted some more pictures while I was writing this so I will have a look at them.
Joe, #2-5-14 for me. You handled the exposure at the Seaport very well. The tones and slight angle work well on the Times Square shot.
Corry! Thanks for capturing the personal side of things. That is an angle that works well for you.
What happened to the feet on #15? :er:
Here are a few of my shots
#1 Group Therapy
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c73/digitalflowerpictures/tpf5w.jpg
#2 We’re off to see the wizard. I see some people have the sense to walk on the sidewalk
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c73/digitalflowerpictures/tpf1w.jpg
#3 I am sure you are smiling in this one, Dave. Thanks for watching out for the correct train.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c73/digitalflowerpictures/tpf3w.jpg
#4 South Street Seaport. Jim had some interesting information on the fleet.
http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c73/digitalflowerpictures/tpf4w.jpg
#5 I had to post a picture of the most photographed bird in NYC. If cameras shot bullets instead of pictures this would have been one dead duck. I’m talking total Swiss cheese.

I went looking back through my pictures to see if there was any more worth editing, specifically of Joe, because there seems to be a lack of Joe shots from me this time around. :P
....I found ONE more...plus three more of Sky....so there is still a Joe famine. Oh well...I'll make up for it when I go back out there in two weeks. :-P

Awesome photos guys. Favorites so far:
Grace from Joe's set.
Sky's portraits with the yellow wall.
Corry's seagull shots.
Gull by Joe.
Corry, #19 on yours looks like it could be on the front of the DVD case of a TV show. :P Just has that look I guess.
Great shots.

Why is Sky always trying to bounce his flash while outdoors?
Cause you're supposed to tilt the flash when you use the sto fen omni bounce. Sez so on their FAQ on the website. I don't know if it actually makes a difference, but I do it anyway.

Oh, btw... I just figured out what was happening on the brooklyn bridge the day we were at the South Street Seaport:
from http://thepoliticker.observer.com/2007/03/events-for-march-1012-2007.html
Events for March 10-12, 2007
[...]
10 a.m. Tibetans, students and supporters commemorate the 1959 Tibetan uprising against China by meeting at Cadman Plaza in Brooklyn, marching across the Brooklyn Bridge, and rallying at Dag Hammerskjold Plaza, at 47th Street and First Avenue, and then gathering at Union Square, 14th Street and Broadway.

Cause you're supposed to tilt the flash when you use the sto fen omni bounce. Sez so on their FAQ on the website. I don't know if it actually makes a difference, but I do it anyway.
;-)
I know...I'm just giving you a hard time.
Although I see many photographers do use the onmibounce outdoors like that, it's really only useful when it's actually bouncing off a ceiling etc. When used like that, it's forcing your flash to work much, much harder because only a portion of the light is going forward and coming back to the lens. On top of that, it doesn't really increase the size of the light source so it doesn't make the light any softer.
Or maybe I'm on crack because you seem to have made some great shots

Chris, #4, and your title of it made me laugh! I love that last one! So bummed out that my CF card filled (and then the next one malfunctioned) JUUUST as I was going to take a picture of those guys! I think you got a good capture of it though!

You, and the rest of the gang, have a permanent 'Open Sesame' at my house. It was an honor to meet all of you.
And the 'non-person' shot using a part of the Grace Building is one absolutely delightful composition. You really displayed your photographic chops with that one.

Heh....well, Joe, Sky, and I are having a mini one in 13 days (my birthday celebration!)
...not sure when the next BIG public planned one will be though.
This mini one is very up in the air as to how it's going to go, and where are are going to be one what days, so it'd be kinda hard to start a thread about it.
