View Full Version : Beyond rescue?

Is this one beyond rescue or can some of you PS experts still salvage this photo?

http://pic20.picturetrail.com/VOL14/582725/9132414/169210506.jpg

My attempts look a bit ... ugh ... horrible.
Could some cross processesing action be applied here, maybe, in the way Kalee does to her daughter's pics?
Or would any of you have any other idea for this one?

hey corinna,

I'v had a quick play.... i'd do summin like this..... although the image was quite low rez... so some of my editing wouldn't work well on it..... i would make the eyes a bit sharper and stuff like that on a full rez version..... plus the skin is still uneven on these..... i'd sort that out too..... but just to give you an idea.

Thank you to the two of you. So you think that b+w could rescue this one, Archie? I might try my hands at such version then. Though I think this one actually is beyond rescue...

yea.... i had to duplicate the layer and use alot of the shadow/highlight filter to get rid of the hot spot on the forehead.... then i masked the rest of the image off..... so it was only showing in that area. After all the rest of the alterations..... i merged the lot together..... and then did the B+W conversion... but the original camera file would yield better results. ;)

Oh, one day I do need a "layer tutorial" ... I have no clue as to how to work with layers and masks and all that...

I can mail you the original file, may I?
Not that I hadn't taken at least 15 more pics of Sabine on that very occasion ... :er: ... but just for the challenge... ?

It is so nice to see all your attempts here, everyone tries something different and the outcome is always so much better than my wrongly exposed original. So it isn't all beyond rescue, I am happy about that :D.

The results of all your attempts are utterly fascinating! I am in awe.
Thanks you to all for trying. May I collect all your edits (with name, of course, of who edited which) onto my harddrive?

I was just flicking though here and had a go at this one - I know it's old, but hey - so am I!

Bit of jpeg artefacting on it due to the size, but there you go.

Heehee, you are still working with this photo ... very nice results, good to see what ideas people have to rescue this photo.
If my daughter knew that ........... ......... i.e. that her picture is being worked on by people all over the world .............!

Does it not seem to be a bit dark?
I know that actually the situation in which I took this one was lighter. (Hence the overexposure on her face in the first place :irked: ). But I am happy to see that you are still interested in trying to help me rescue this particular photo of my daughter!!!

Hehe. Sorry if it's Dark.
My LCD monitor is awful for showing brightness.

Probably be able to lighten it with simple brightness/contrasts from there.
