On Sunday it were Mataji, Hertz, my sister and I - and later Scurra came back up from Kent to join us. We had another wonderful day together in Saffron Walden, a lovely little place called Thaxted, not too far from Saffron Walden, and in Finchingfield, where we had wanted to go on Saturday, only to end up in the TOTALLY different direction. We could not have been more wrong then :D.

So here are a couple of mine taken on Sunday, second day of the meet-up:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/Inna2212/Meet-Up/015_Krhe.jpg
A bird that is hardly known to anyone who comes to TPF regularly, and neither is it known that many want to capture such bird in a graveyard, preferably sitting on a cross caw-cawing away. This one was caw-cawing all right but simply refused to "come downstairs" to these....

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/Inna2212/Meet-Up/016_FriedhofThaxted.jpg
...graves that were right below it!!!
Part of the church and the old churchyard in Thaxted

Christiane aka LaFoto'sSister checking out photo opportunities in Thaxted - you could also say she's walking into my picture............. :meh: :lmao:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/Inna2212/Meet-Up/014_KircheFinchingfield.jpg
Church and graveyard in Finchingfield

And then there was this beautifully restored Morris Isis parked in Finchingfield and we almost fell over ourselves in our attempts to photograph it from all sides and angles and catching our reflections in the sparkling, shiny mud wings:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/Inna2212/Meet-Up/019_MorrisIsisInnen.jpg

And then it was time to leave a good many new friends, England, Stanstead Airport and a wonderful weekend behind and fly out into the setting sun...

I now see that there is one part for Saturday and one part for Sunday.
On Sunday I took these. Really I took many more. I show these, I think I cannot put up so many:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/012_Corinnahertz.jpg
What are they looking at?

This!
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/013_MhleinThaxted.jpg
It is the windmill in Thaxted.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/014_MeetingScurraAgain.jpg
We meet Scurra again in the Saffron Hotel.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/015_Exhausted.jpg
Corinna is exhausted, I think.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/016_MorrisIsis.jpg
This is the nice old car. It was very shiny.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/017_PerfectReflection.jpg
Everybody made photos in the mirror - this car was a mirror everywhere. All parts were a mirror.
In this photo you can see the car owner in his pink shirt and Hertz, Scurra, Corinna, myself and Mataji.

This is so funny: I think we all have a photo of the man clipping his hedge. I have one, Christiane has one, you apparently have one :).

I also have a couple of nice ones from the landscapes and houses we saw, but maybe those can go in an extra thread? I'm not sure...

Just a couple more
One to get my own back on LaFoto :greenpbl:
(Captions for what PlasticSpanner is thinking, please)
And one of Mataji to prove that us old-timers don't need any of this new fangled Photoshop rubbish. We can do it in the camera.

And as everyone else has posted their picture of the most photographed girl on TPF I thought I would add mine.

I do have a little video footage of us in the pub (naturally) and as soon as I can find the connector to load it on to my laptop... and work out how to post video clips then I will get it posted. Help and advice please.

Teacher! Teacher! Hertz is putting Day 1-photos into the Day 2-thread! What will you do to him now????

And teacher, he is putting up nasty photos of myself.
What have I ever done to him?
I am still PLANNING to do something to him...........!!!!

OK now yer talkin my language!
i spent a year in that neck of the woods around Thaxted. On a teaching exchange. Lived in a small village called Steeple Bumpstead (not a typo!) near Haverhill and Saffron Walden; beautiful country around there. Thanks for the memories. :)

Finchingfield.....very cool spot!

Yes, keep blaming the nav sat.

I might have to gang up with my sister in order to find some more "sweet revenge"-photos in answer to this one that you have taken and posted (!) of me... unfortunately I am running out of "revenge-pics" myself... :meh:

Scurra?
Any Day-2 pics of you anywhere? Maybe?

We might also try to post something more ---- arty? For a change?
For I am sure many of us took more photos than those of each other!

Would we want or need a new thread for "The Other Photos of the Meet-Up", maybe?

mentos_007
08-23-2005, 09:03 AM
yeah would be nice. Saffron is sucha beautiful village that I took a few nice pics... and I'd like to share them.

LaFoto

This thread is not so "alive" as the one on Day 1, not surprising, since we were only few left on Sunday. But I feel like showing you also some things that we saw on that day, even though many of you were not with us, but don't feel the need for an extra "arty-farty"-thread for the Sunday. So my photos of "Places, Sites and Monuments" (or whatever I called it in the "arty-farty"-thread title for Day 1) will show up here, soon. Be warned ;).

LaFoto
08-25-2005, 05:15 AM
You were warned. You did not take any precautions. Now you'll get FLOODED!

PlasticSpanner
08-25-2005, 05:39 AM
Nice to see what you all got up to on day 2! I just knew someone was going to photograph that windmill!

Was there a cycle race going on or something? Looks like an "official" photographer there on the corner!

LaFoto
08-25-2005, 05:41 AM
Yes, that was an official bicycle race, and yes, that is the official photographer on the corner. Good for you to spot him! :)
I am quite happy about this cyclist's photos, for panning has never been my forte, you know?

I must still send those from Finchingfield. So stay tuned.

LaFoto
08-26-2005, 01:59 AM
So for all interested, and for the interest of those who TRIED (much in vain) to get to Finchingfield with us on Saturday, but for some silly nav sat reason were sent WEST instead of EAST to "get there" (or rather NOT), here is what you missed:

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/Inna2212/Meet-Up/black6.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/Inna2212/Meet-Up/black7.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/Inna2212/Meet-Up/black8.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/Inna2212/Meet-Up/black9.jpg
Hertz explained me all about authentic Romanic church doors and the myth of the keystone when we saw this door of the church in Finchingfield.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/Inna2212/Meet-Up/black10.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/Inna2212/Meet-Up/black11.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/Inna2212/Meet-Up/black12.jpg
I think there is NOT ONE visitor to Finchingfield who has NOT taken a photo of THIS scene here! Not one! (Finchingfield is said to be the most often photographed village of England, and I am not surprised).

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y75/Inna2212/Meet-Up/black13.jpg
However, this man clipping his hedge may not have known that he was motif to at least three of us (Hertz? Scurra? You too????), for Vixenta's photo of him is already up somewhere here and I happen to know that he is among my sister's digital photos, too :D.

And last, but not least, one TOTAL view of that "famous" Morris Isis that was parked there and that we all admired so much and in whose reflective mudguards we took all our photos:

Now I am tired.
Maybe I have some time tomorrow.
Corinna always says I must come and post photos and look at photos and answer - I have too much work! After work I am tired.
I also have to work tomorrow. But before Corinna phones me again to ask, I shall try to send some pictures from Thaxted and Finchingfield.

mentos_007
08-26-2005, 03:15 PM
yeah you should try... or Corinna will molest you so you won't share the pics with us with pleasure... :D

Scurra
08-27-2005, 10:30 AM
Gah my shots of day 2 are in Harrow and i'm in Kent.. i'll post some when I get back in 2 weeks time if you're still interested (oh and yes I got a picture of the chap clipping his hedge too).

wow, thanks Graham for the mention. nice to know we came to mind!

It's worrying how much crow spotting was going on Jon, in the end we had to resort to the flag because real ones were proving to tricky to get out of the trees. I'll be sure to take a bag of fresh eyeballs next time I'm near a grave yard and see if I can tempt them down :s

LaFoto
08-27-2005, 11:15 AM
Never mind, Scurra. We'll still be here in two weeks time! I sure will still be interested!

But where is that sister of mine who promised to send in more of HER photos from Day 2???? Must get to the phone, I think, also to find out if her films were back today. For if not... then the earliest next chance to get them is next TUESDAY! My nerves! Oh, my nerves! ;););)

LaFoto
08-29-2005, 05:05 AM
Bad news: this computerphobic, or rather internetforumphobic sister of mine (uh-oh, if she reads this, I'll be in trouble!) did NOT post her digital photos of Day 2 on Saturday, like she had promised... what methods of tele-torture do you people know? What can I do to her now?

Good news: her films were back on Saturday, I phoned her up to ask, and she sent a parcel my way this morning. By tomorrow around 11 a.m. it should have arrived, then I can start scanning... and I am SURE, absolutely POSITIVE, that there are a good many really, really good ones among them!

(She never ordered a CD right with the prints, says €3,99 per CD with 6 films is way too expensive, over €20.- extra? No. Her sister can better scan the lot for her - phew! ;). But I will do so! I will! :D)

LaFoto
08-30-2005, 02:23 PM
Still no photos of Day 2 here, either :(

Though there is some good in that. If my Christiane does not come here, she cannot find this sentence about her being an "internetforumphobic sister" ;)...

LaFoto
08-31-2005, 05:26 AM
Sorry, I am having a monologue with myself in this thread, or so it seems, but:

The phonecall has come.
The one in which Christiane is asking me to please! put up the remaining unposted photos in her stead. She says that with her work going (she's in counselling - alcohol abuse primarily - I do understand why that can lead to overtime, work that you take home with you in your head and all that!) she can't be sure she's back on before the weekend, and these threads are getting "cold", sort of (though we must keep them alive till Scurra's back from Switzerland!!!!), so that is why.

So take this and the following posts as something that has been sent in by

Policemen and the official photographer of the bicycle race that went through Thaxted when Vixenta, Hertz, Christiane and I were there in the morning - and we just couldn't have that HUGE lens be there "unchallenged" (i.e. unphotographed :)).

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/Scans_TPF-Meet-Up/30_KircheinThaxted.jpg
Church in Thaxted with the wide-angle lens.

What is the technical term for the fact that the sides of buildings seem to be falling into the picture when you use a wide-angle lens?

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/Scans_TPF-Meet-Up/29_BinkeineKrhe.jpg
"Hey, what is that for? I might be sitting on a cross, but am I a crow? Well, am I? Am I?"

JonMikal should take a close look at this one, he might as yet recognise this one as a crow! ;)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/Scans_TPF-Meet-Up/31_DiskussionsstoffohneEnde.jpg
There is always something to be discussed! Always!

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/Scans_TPF-Meet-Up/32_BeiderArbeit.jpg
Christiane called this one "At Work" ;).

All these are scans from her prints.
She did post her digital photos from Thaxted before, didn't she... Boy, there are so many photos up about our Meet-Up by now... I am even getting confused with OURS, i.e. Christiane's and mine!

I wonder if anyone's still coming to really LOOK at these threads? Are we milking them to death here?

A slightly different take on the mill and the white houses, but I can tell you that also Christiane has taken one photo of the very typical view of this part of the village (cf. Hertz's photo for that very view)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/Scans_TPF-Meet-Up/36_FinchingfieldCafs.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/Scans_TPF-Meet-Up/37_Finchingfield_HuserKabel.jpg
I am sure Christiane likes this one because of the wires leading to the houses... At least I like it for that fact! :)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/Scans_TPF-Meet-Up/39_Krhensuche.jpg
She captioned this one with "'So many crosses! And not ONE crow in sight???' - Crow-hunters."

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/Hecke.jpg
One that must not miss in our collection: Christiane's take at the man who clipped his hedge :D

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/MhleFinchingfield.jpg
And another different approach at the white windmill of Finchingfield

And what would our visit to this place have been without this little treasure?

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/MorrisIsis.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y99/LaFotosSister/Khlertemperatur.jpg

My, these are getting too many. Couple more of our second visit to Thaxted (WITH Scurra!) and of our going home later (must prepare lunch...).

I hope some still come and enjoy these !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
