Just came accross this site with a free download. Try this to get pretty good black and white photos instead of grayscaled images. To save me waffling on just click on the link.

very interesting link ... i downloaded the filters and got some interesting results ... here are few examples:

this is the original photo

standard grayscale

what i usually do with my b&w with a gradient map

http://www.twistedlense.com/channel_mixer/gradient_map.jpg

here is their DigiDannNC (normal contrast)
http://www.twistedlense.com/channel_mixer/nc.jpg

DigiDannHC (high contrast)
http://www.twistedlense.com/channel_mixer/hc.jpg

DigiDannOF (orange filter)
http://www.twistedlense.com/channel_mixer/of.jpg

i think the use of the filter depends on the photo itself, the lighting conditions and the color of the person's skin-tone ... for me, this photo works best with DigiDannNC or DigiDannHC (i printed them all out) ... the DigiDannOF (orange filter) doesnt work for his skin tone .. what'ya think?

thanks for sharing the link Darfion, its very useful and most likely i will use these filters a lot :D
