For some reason this seems easy to me. Not the photography part.... the idea part. Lots of ideas flying around already. I know the photography part will be killer.

Yes I agree this should be interesting...I think it will be mostly interesting to see how people choose to define abstract...will the shots lean more towards non objective, or more towards realism...this could be interesting depend on others viewpoints of what abstract really is....

hmmmm very interesting! will the "abstract" part be more of a photoshopping skill rather than a phototaking skill?

Bottom line is do whatever you feel you need to. Just keep in mind that if people feel too much was done in photoshop, they may be less likely to vote for it.

great - there goes my PS idea...
I think it should be based on what photography is - the artistic eye of the photographer - if Ansel Adams used PS to add a few mountains, would that make the pic bad?

i think PS is fine, at least some. the shot someone is looking for might be impossible without some PS. like the lighting they might want, or something like that. I think we should just vote on how much we think the image is good and how much we think it is 'abstract'. I'm just looking for something that took some thought and at least a little talent in execution. besides, if any theme is valid for using photoshop, this one is .
cant wait to see the entries!

Ok, let me make sure everyone is on the same page.
We don't have any rules against using PS and doing as much PS work as you would like. That being said, keep in mind that this is a photography challenge, and the opinion of where a photo stops being a photo and becomes digital art can vary quite a bit from person to person. I would suspect that most people would be more likely to vote for photo than something that was obviously a more computer-generated image.
Hope that helps!

But, what if we have an image people will think was PSed, but.. wasn't? Because I've got something... but I don't want people to think I just screwed around in PS... I've got the negs to prove this one...

Go for it :)
You never really know what will motivate a person to vote on a photo or skip a photo. If you have something you like, submit!

As chase had mentioned, we really have no rules. People can more or less submit whatever they like. We don't exclude photos just because they are PS'd.
Submit what you've done and let the people decide if they like it or not. After the voting is completed you can always eloborate on what you did to create the photo or to enhance it.

when does voting start and end?
The voting starts when Twist posts a poll, that should be today.
I hope it's today because I will be gone for the next two weeks... I will miss the voting..... :(
