This was posted on another board and I found this link incredibly useful. I have been searching for a way to setup a cheap studio at home for portraits and stills. I will be rigging one of these lights on the 15th when I get paid.
It's $25 at walmart for the 500watt halogen worklight with a stand. $15 for the umbrella from ebay. I haven't priced a new one from the photo store.
Then you could always get a couple more incandescent lights for fill light and backdrop or rim lighting.
Make sure you use an 80A filter to correct the yellow light.
