Help using Original Lensbaby with Nikon D40

I am having a problem using the Original Lensbaby with my Nikon D40. I have the camera in manual mode, but when I try to shoot a picture, it only shows as black. I manually put the flash up, but the display says "Flash is in TTL mode. Choose another setting or use a CPU lens." I don't know what this means and what I'm doing wrong. Any help would be much appreciated.

If the camera is set to a manual mode you should be able to go into the settings, then the Custom setting tab from the left, and scroll down to the Built-in flash option (14). Here you can switch from TTL to Manual.

If your images are coming out black, you're most likely using too slow a shutter speed thus not allowing enough light to enter the camera.
